Following in the footsteps of Kenneth Norman and the body of his life's work, Wayne Norman heads up NORMAN'S TRANSPORT & LOGISTIC LINES.

This exciting division has gained momentum as it grew from its conception to a fully operational and mobile Company.

NORMANS TRANSPORT LINES 1958 - 1992

Wayne Norman has applied his years of mentoring and growing up as the only son in the Norman Family, at his dad’s side.  From a young pre-teen, Wayne was already learning the business and its various operation as well as the challenges facing any Transport Company.

NTL was founded in 1958 after being awarded the National Contract of Consol Glass - CONSOLIDATED GLASS WORKS. Head Office in Wadeville and Western Cape Division - Sacks Circle, Bellville South, were located within walking distance of the enormous CONSOL GLASS FACTORIES.

Further contracts were awarded nationally and these clients included:

*    APPLETIZER

*    LIQUIFRUIT

*    BISON BOARDS

*.   AECI PAINTS

to name, but a few.........

In the early 1980’s Wayne watched the Design, Development and Construction of the largest vehicle depot, in the Company’s 13 depots, again at his father’s side.  This was a cutting edge operation within the Group.

*    Full Mechanical Lanes - including maintenance as well as complete rebuilding of motors.  In this division there were 8 fully qualified and accredited mechanics, on rotation, each with their very own assistant.  Trucks would filter around the operation and enter into the respective spotlessly maintained bays.  The entire immaculately maintained facility was a benchmark for the Industry.

*    Full Panelbeating & Rebuild Centre - This Facility undertook the complete scope of works involved in the rebuild of the Horse's Restoration and respray, including refinement features, like Seat trimming and restoration of interior of driver’s sleeper cabs.

*    On-site fully stocked Spares warehouse, holding everything from Cummins Engine parts, to exhaust systems, to uniforms, safety boots to protective gear.  All Branded by NORMAN’S.  This was groundbreaking in the industry at the time, where there was very little works that needed to be outsourced.

*    There was a fully operational TYRE DIVISION - Here we would have an onsite Stock of all necessary new types, as well as a BANDAG RETREADING FACILITY which also reduced outsourcing.

*    There was two full lanes of washdays where trucks were driven up on ramps and constantly being cleaned under high pressure machinery to do regular checks for any leaks or maintenance issues.

*    2 Lubrication Bays for vehicles that were in-between the larger Service Type1, were regularly lubricated and checked for all electrical operations on the Horses and trailers.

*    There were 20 on site Driver’s en-suite Overnight rooms where long distance drivers could rest and ablute before returning to the longs distance route back to Head Office in Wadevile in Germiston in Johannesburg.

*.   We carried a three pump Diesel Refuelling station on site.

*    This operation grew exponentially until it was bought out by THE IMPERIAL GROUP in 1992 - at which time it was the largest privately owned Trucking Operation in South Africa - with 13 depots countrywide and 500 trucks.

*    A NORMAN’S TRANSPORT LINES SOCCER TEAM was also one of the Company funded staff leisure activities.

To this end, Wayne Norman now spearheads the development of the new birth child of THE NORMAN GROUP PTY LTD - fondly named NORMAN’S TRANSPORT & LOGISTIC LINES.

We now manage a fleet of 60 trucks, and growing.

NORMAN’S TRANSPORT & LOGISTIC LINES is building up a Consortium of Sub-Contractors who are carefully accredited and endorsed before the awarding of Contracts.

We welcome all Truck Fleet owners to contact us to become part of this exciting and developing Division.
